How do I recognise worn shock absorbers?
Typical signs are a floating or bouncing feeling after bumps, a longer braking distance, swaying or leaning in bends, uneven tyre wear and oil leaking from the shock absorber. Not sure? Come by for a suspension diagnosis and we will determine the cause.
Why do you always replace shock absorbers per axle?
Shock absorbers wear gradually and almost equally on the left and right. By replacing them per axle (2 at a time), the road behaviour stays even and your car brakes and steers predictably. One new and one old shock absorber on the same axle is unsafe and not recommended.
Are worn shock absorbers a fail point at the APK?
Yes. Worn or leaking shock absorbers are unsafe: they lengthen the braking distance and reduce road grip, and are a fail point at the APK. We can combine the repair directly with your APK; the repair is done in our own workshop in Almere.
Why is a suspension diagnosis needed?
Unsettled or bouncing road behaviour is not always caused by the shock absorbers themselves; springs, control arms or bushings can also be the cause. With a suspension diagnosis (€30) we determine exactly what is going on, so you only replace what is really necessary.
